Forty-Seven (47) years with the same company – that is a long time for anybody to spend in one job. Our special person, Jim Crowley, Safety Officer for CTL Engineering, Inc., is the guy that has accomplished this feat.
Jim started his own company, Columbus Industrial X-Ray Company, in 1960. During the 1960’s he and Jim Lutz formed a corporation known as Colex Corp. which consisted of Jim’s X-Ray company and Mr. Lutz’s Materials Joining Consultants. Columbus Testing Laboratory worked with them on several projects and developed a good rapport with them over the years.
When Columbus Testing Laboratory was ready to move into it’s new facilities at it’s present location, the X-Ray division of Colex was merged into CTL and moved with all of it’s X-Ray and nuclear equipment and 5 experienced technicians to the Fisher Road address. This occurred in July of 1969. Jim headed up the NDE department that provided services throughout the United States and even some other counties. His duties included providing many safety type briefings and education classes. These classes were not only for CTL employees, but also for various client employees. This teaching led to his current title of Corporate Safety Officer.
On January 31, 2008, CTL threw a retirement party for Jim at the Buckeye Hall of Fame Café in Columbus, Ohio. He was adorned by past and current CTL employees who were all appreciative of his dedication for so many years. When asked “Do you have any plans to keep you busy during retirement?” Jim charismatically quipped, “Not unlike the proverbial Miss America, I plan on promoting world peace. Also, some travel, finding a hobby and keeping my wife happy (Lord knows she deserves it after putting up with me all these years!).” Thanks Jim for all the laughs, enthusiasm and loyalty you have shown CTL over the years. We hope you enjoy your retirement!
